Whether you require skip hire services for a week-long home renovation project or a large-scale construction job, making sure you choose the correct size is vitally important. Hiring a skip that’s too small for your waste needs will lead to more frequent collections, which will not only cost you more but negatively impact the environment. On the other hand, hiring a skip that’s too big will leave lots of empty space, meaning you’ve paid for more than you truly need.Â
At Black Country Skip Hire, we understand that knowing what skip size you need can be difficult – especially if you’ve never hired a skip before. That’s why we’ve created an introductory guide to common skip sizes and what they’re best suited for.Â
Two-yard skips, otherwise known as mini skips, are typically used for one-off applications that don’t generate much waste. For example, if you’re clearing out your garden and need to dispose of just a few small piles of green waste, hiring a mini skip is likely the best option.
Although four-yard skips, otherwise known as a midi skips, are a slightly larger option, they still lend themselves best to small projects that aren’t ongoing, such as a spring clean or garage clear out. If you’re opting for a mini or four-yard skip, you want to make sure that you’re not going to need regular collections.
8-yard skips, otherwise known as maxi skips, are probably the largest skip size you’ll need for a domestic project. These are best suited to house renovation projects that might generate large volumes of waste, and which might require waste collection services for a few weeks or even months.
16-yard skips are typically used for commercial applications because they can contain large volumes of waste. They often come with lids to prevent fly-tipping and waste contamination on construction and demolition sites.Â
Most home renovation projects don’t generate enough waste to justify a 16-yard skip, so these are typically only used in construction and industrial environments. Another reason for this is that they don’t fit on pavements or driveways!Â
If you’re not sure which sized skip you require for your next project, don’t hesitate to contact us at Black Country Skip Hire today. With a team of friendly and professional skip hire experts, we are well-equipped to help you find the most appropriate and affordable solution.Â
